Depending upon which way you look at it avatars came online about 5,000 years ago, or just after Neil Stephenson's 1992 science fiction novel, Snow Crash appeared on the market and was wholeheartedly adopted by the online community as the bible of avatar use.

David Amerland did not explain what would happen should the company get flooded with emails requesting the avatar creation service. "We stand behind it. Should we find ourselves inundated we will find a way to deal with it, but right now we are prepared to allocate resource time as necessary."
